REFLECTION

I have taken a considerable amount of time to reflect on my experiences in Grenada with the UF College of Nursing. Each person I engaged with was excited and willing to learn more about their health and wellness. My favorite aspect of this trip was working with such prominent figures in Grenada's political system. Ms. Hopkins, who hosted us, is a woman I will admire for the rest of my life. She has grown in stature and favor with the people of Grenada because she lives to give of herself to others.

Without this trip, I would not have any experience with healthcare beyond our borders. The field of nursing is constantly changing as new technologies are being implemented into clinical practice; however, the nurses in St. George's General hospital taught me that the basics of nursing care, such as the head-to-toe assessment, vital signs, and aseptic technique, are universally standard practices and that nursing doesn't require advanced technology. I hope to rely on my nursing intuition, senses, and clinical reasoning in my future career as much as the nurses in Grenada do.

Furthermore, this trip gave me the opportunity to connect with fellow strong, intelligent, capable peers. Our group developed such a strong, intimate bond over these ten days and every single member of our team impacted me in a unique way. When we worked health fairs for 5 hours in the radiant, warm Caribbean sun, I made it through because my teammates encouraged me to love, serve, and give more of myself to our patients every second of the way. I am incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to partake in this journey to this particular eastern Caribbean island and will never forget the moments, memories, and people that will forever impact my career as a nurse.
